*I have adopted from them in the past, after many rejections. And if that upsets applicants.sorry not sorry. They are in it for the dogs.Ĭavalier Rescue USA is the best organization for the dog’s wellbeing. This organization is not in it for the money. A shitty organization would charge a flat fee. They require a small “donation” of whatever $ you want. They don’t require fees like most rescues. I understand peoples frustration with Cavalier Rescue….but they are a great organization that cares about the dogs more than anything. Be willing to put in whatever work necessary in order to give the dog a fulfilling life. Convey how willing you are to make sacrifices for the dog. Be open to whatever dog is available (age, gender, etc). Think about your answers, and pour your heart into it. My advice, when filling out an application, is to be thoughtful, detailed, and heartfelt. Isn’t this what matters most? That they are choosing an applicant with a lifestyle that is most conducive to the dog? They get presented with a stack of applications, and they decide on a family that best fits the needs of their specific foster dog. They foster & live with the dog, and get to know it well. Some people find them to be overly affectionate, so if you are not a person who. Cavaliers are extremely people-oriented, social and very affectionate. CRF does not guarantee their genetic history. I believe that the foster family has big input. Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, especially rescues, can range in weight and size not all Cavaliers are small. Cavaliers are a huge commitment, and many applicants don’t realize how needy these dogs are. They want to know that you understand how high maintenance Cavaliers are, how many health issues you need to be aware of/prevent, and that your lifestyle is a good match for each particular dog. But their biggest priority is to applicants with Cavalier experience. They get to know the dogs, and then they see what applicants are the best fit. It sucks that so many families get turned away…but this guarantees that the dogs end up in the perfect home. But at the end of the day, the most important thing IS the dogs. This rescue is strict, and probably overly protective of the dogs. We always joke that Cavalier adoptions are more intense than baby adoption. As they say where my family is from, bless their hearts. I don't have the patience and am not paid enough to deal with them." They were not surprised that these "rescues" but particularly Cavalier Rescue USA, is filled up with people who are eager to get these dogs out of breeders hands just to pass judgement and prejudice on decently fine families. HA! Nanny for the future kids and another dog nanny, it is! It goes without saying that I've shared our frustrations with our entire family on our group threads and all of our family who are in vet medicine said the same thing, "UGH, cavalier people are the WORST patients. Luckily, we make excellent income bc we have worked relentlessly, and my reply was like, ugh we just would make it work, like normal. We don't have children, and were asked PLENTY of times when we do plan to have children, how we would manage with cavs and a child. We have our own 'Cavalier Fat Club' group for owners to join, it is very friendly and supportive.Seriously, the audacity of people. Carrying too much weight not only impacts the joints leading to knee and hip problems, but also impacts the heart and makes it work much harder- a problem that Cavaliers struggle with too much already. Hip dysplasia can occur, as with other breeds, which again may require very expensive salvage surgery or long term physiotherapy and pain relief.Ī misconception with Cavaliers being prone to being overweight has led to many owners thinking this is normal for the breed. We have seen many Cavaliers with knee problems, most commonly luxating patellas requiring surgery and cruciate damage. Their mouths are small and overcrowded, without good dental hygiene and good food they will need to be anesthetised for a dental procedure, often yearly. Very often they have bad teeth requiring extraction and regular dental work. Cavaliers also suffer with some other common problems.
